Cheryl VanderBeek Obituary

Cheryl was born on December 23, 1975, the only child of Austin R Vick and Linda L Vick in Denver Colorado. At the age of 6, the family moved to Golden Colorado where Cheryl grew up until the age of 10. She then relocated with her family to Buena Park, California where she attended Middle School and Buena Park High School. Between her Jr. and Sr. year, her family then relocated back to Colorado, where she Graduated from Arvada West High School in 1994.

Cheryl had a passion for Dance her whole life. Although their focus for her Education was on Academics, her parents recognized her passion for dance and had her start dance lessons at a young age. She danced her way through Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and all the way up to a BA in Biology, which she received from the University of Colorado, Denver, on December 14, 2002.

It was her dancing through college, that enabled her to meet her future husband, Robert A. VanderBeek. In 1999, Cheryl wound up with a brief scholarship to attend the University of Utah, Ballet Department. It was during this time that Rob and Cheryl met. When their gaze locked on, it would never be broken.  Rob met up with Cheryl after his school was done a few months later, and they started life as a couple. Rob as a Sales Professional and Cheryl as a Certified Pharmacy Tech.

In June of 2003, Cheryl wanted to fulfill her Dream, Dancing on the big stage in Las Vegas, so Cheryl and Rob, packed up their things and Moved to Vegas. It only took 5 months of Auditions, before she was picked up by Dave Thompson Production, for their “Showgirls” and “Sonny and her Fabulous Blondes” performances, at Harrah’s in Reno. She performed with that company for just over a year, She was then able to transition over to the “Crazy Girls” show at the Riviera, Las Vegas, where she performed for over 5 years. She was pretty much in the last generation of Flamingo Style Showgirls. As 5 years is a long time for any girl to be in a single show, she felt the need to do something more challenging. So she became a dealer in the casino party pits during the day, and did the show at night. It is there that she taught herself Dice, with the help of her Pit Bosses, and landed a job at the prestigious Wynn.

Through all the years as a true Las Vegas Showgirl, Cheryl never lost her sense of self, she remained an honest, kind, loving, and trustworthy woman, Cheryl had another passion, her love of Nature. The glam girl on stage never took over the mountain girl in her heart. Cheryl and Rob would often go on long camping and fishing trips. They explored Caves in Colorado and Nevada, Climbed Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park at about 13,300 feet, They explored Ancient Mayan Ruins in the Jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico. They also hit almost every national park in the Western United States. They knew the Red Rock and Mt Charleston well. Cheryl loved to get out in Nature and Hike.

Cheryl also liked to Bake. She made the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in the World! She was also a master at baking Cakes. If you got one of her Cakes for your Birthday…you were Special.

After 14 years of having a wonderful life together, Cheryl and Rob decided to get married. They were bound together for eternity at Lake Side Weddings and Events Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 20, 2013.

Cheryl started her battle with Breast Cancer in late 2010. After going through conventional treatment including surgery and chemotherapy, it appeared that she had Won the Fight! Unfortunately, the Cancer returned in late 2015 with a rapidly growing form, that even conventional treatment could barely slow down. Cheryl educated herself on the Holistic Treatments that are known, and through the use of both conventional and holistic treatments, along with the support of her devoted husband, her family, and the friends she made through her amazing journey through life, she was allowed another short 3 years of life.

Cheryl passed away peacefully, at her home in Las Vegas, surrounded by her family and some of her most personal friends, at the young age of 42, on June 10, 2018.

She is survived by her husband, Robert A VanderBeek, and Father, Austin R Vick, both of Las Vegas, NV.
