Carolyn Stamy Obituary

Carolyn Jean Stamy, of Bigfork, Montana, was born on March 8, 1950, to Henry and Gladys Danner in St. Paul, Minnesota. She passed away at her home on February 16, 2026 with her family at her side.

Carolyn graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1968 and attended Winona State University, both in Minnesota, where she met her husband, Ed, and married him in 1970. Carolyn and Ed had two daughters and she was a stay-at-home mom until 1994 when she decided to finish her college education as a non-traditional student at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, where she graduated summa cum laude with a BA degree in community leadership in 1996. She enjoyed a rewarding and fulfilling 18-year career as a consultant for non-profit organizations, providing training, planning and fundraising services to non-profit organizations throughout western Montana.

Carolyn spent her life volunteering in a variety of capacities for numerous non-profit organizations and churches where she was a member - Christ Lutheran church of Libby, Montana and Desert Hills Lutheran Church (DHLC) of Green Valley, AZ. She was very proud of her involvement with the Montana Community Foundation, as a founding/organizing member of the Women's Foundation of Montana and as the organizing force behind the Lincoln County Community Foundation. She also served as a board member of the regional Red Cross chapter in Kalispell, Montana, the Montana Ambassadors Association, president of the Cabinet View golf course board and as president of Christ Lutheran Church in Libby. She most recently served as Vice-President of the DHLC Foundation Board of directors and as a member of the architectural review committee of the Canoa Estates II HOA, both in Green Valley.

Upon their retirement in 2018, Carolyn and Ed enjoyed traveling across the country and purchased a winter home in Green Valley, Arizona in 2020. She enjoyed spending time with their three grandchildren, especially following their sporting activities. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, quilting and needlework and was always looking for a new recipe to try.

She is survived by her husband, Ed, of 55 years, two daughters, Lisa (Ted) Steiner, Whitefish, MT and Lori (Mark) Quinn Frenchtown, MT; three grandchildren, Ruedi Steiner, Eli and Mason Quinn; a brother Gary (Linda) Danner, Mesa, AZ and a sister-in-law, Judy (Sam) Murfitt, Helena, MT.

Services will be held on March 20th at 11:00 AM at Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, AZ with Pastor Mike Sager presiding and on May 29th at 11:00 AM at Community United Methodist Church in Bigfork with Pastor Wendy Ochs presiding.

Memorials may be given to the Lincoln County Community Foundation in Libby, MT and the Desert Hills Lutheran Church Foundation in Green Valley, AZ.
