Jiggs Virginia Korpi

With heavy hearts, we share the passing on May 31, 2025, of our beloved Mom, Grandma and devoted wife of 67 years, Virginia "Jiggs" Korpi. Her absence leaves a huge void in our universe.

Jiggs was born to Walter and Wanda Smith in Brainerd, Minnesota, graduating from Grand Rapids High School in 1958. She married John Korpi in 1958, and they had three children, Salena, John and Cynthia.

Jiggs was always ready for an adventure, from canoeing on the Mississippi as a teenager, to moving across the country with John and her family to live in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and finally settling in Montana. Mom made a home wherever we landed. She loved to learn about a new place, teach her kids about it, and find new places to camp, fish and hunt with John. She was the best camp cook, adventure partner and horse wrangler. She was artistic and creative, skilled at knitting and painting, and a wonderful grandma. She inspired us all.

Jiggs and John both loved Montana, their ultimate destination. Together they took horses into the wilderness and went on many successful hunting trips. They made the most of their retirement years, always ready to go on a road trip, a wilderness trip or a fishing trip.

Jiggs celebrated her 85th birthday in March surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Salena, her husband, Mark and sons, Matt (Lisa) and Nick (Jennifer); son, John, his wife, Laurie and their daughters, Rachel, Erin, Jean (Collin) and Sarah (Josh); daughter, Cindy, and her daughters, Aira (James) and Kirsten (Darin). Seven great-grandchildren also survive, Madison, Aspen, Kaiya, Corbin, Hazel, Cedar and Colson.

A viewing will take place for Virginia (Jiggs) Korpi at Darlington Cremation and Burial Service, Friday June 6th, beginning at 12 Noon. A funeral service will be held following at 1:30 PM.  Interment will be at Conrad Cemetery at approximately 3pm. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
