John Cochrane Obituary

John Fox Cochrane, known to most as “Jack”, passed away September 29, 2022, due to complications from Covid. He was the only child of John (Johnny)C. and Lucy Cochrane and lived most of his life in Montana. Jack studied Chemical Engineering at Montana State College and spent his summers working at Yellowstone National Park. After graduating he was offered a position at JR Simplot Co. in Pocatello where he met Alice and made her his wife Not long after they were married Jack was sent to Naval Officer Candidate school in Rhode Island. Alice joined him on this adventure and after graduation they moved to the Port Hueneme Naval base in California where their son John was born and then to a Naval Radio Station at Jim Creek, where their daughter Cathy was born. After completing his duties for the Navy, Jack and Alice returned to Pocatello where Jack resumed his work for JR Simplot Co. and continued to be a loving and devoted husband, father and friend.

Jack and Alice both had a wealth of love for the outdoors! Hunting, fishing, camping, dirt biking, and just enjoying all of nature were a vital part of his entire life. He was also devoted to his church and the extended family there, lending a helping hand wherever needed. Pocatello was his home until retiring in 1995 when he and Alice moved to Kalispell, MT to be closer to his folks and the land that he loved so much growing up. His son and daughter followed shortly after and his grandchildren were able to know him, learn from him and go on many adventures.

Jack had a love of learning and readily shared his knowledge and wisdom. He taught Hunter’s Ed and fly-tying through Fish and Game for many years. He gave advice and support to those who asked or were in need without ever making the person feel like less for asking.

He was thoughtful, compassionate, generous, intelligent, wise, adventurous, devoted, friendly, and had integrity.

A favorite quote of his is: Set yourself up to win”.

He was loved and admired by many and will be greatly missed.

His memorial service will be held at 4:oo pm October 14th at Darlington Cremation and Burial Services in Kalispell, MT
