Leon George Ward, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, at his home in Goldendale, Washington. Leon was born April 14th, 1936, on the family farm in Centerville, Washington on Stringstreet Road. He was the son of Ralph Cecil and Vernita Wanda (Bowman) Ward. He graduated from Goldendale High School in 1955 and married Laura Elma Murray on September 30th, 1956.
Leon worked hard his whole life to support his family. He worked at Gary’s TV, managed the Best Western Motel and Dinty’s Motor Inn in Biggs Junction, worked at Columbia Aluminum Plant and Linda’s Restaurant. Leon loved to fish and was very active in the Model Railroad Club with Ed Weddle. He loved sports and loved to watch his grandchildren play. He loved to make wood projects and you were blessed to receive any of his crafted items. Leon was a 5th degree member of the Centerville Grange #81. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Ward, sister Nondis Scherer, daughter Shelly Ward and his bride Laura Ward.
He is survived by his children, Sherrie (Richard) Boe, Gregory Ward, Shannon (John) Maul, Glenn (Tammy) Ward, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, sisters Jane (Jody) Granum and Wanda Arnold.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 16th, 2023, at American Legion, 108 N. Grant, Goldendale, Washington, reception to follow. Interment took place on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, at IOOF Mountainview Cemetery in Goldendale, Washington.
