Marilyn Dickson DonTigny, 87, of Bigfork, passed away in Kalispell, MT, on May 24, 2023. Born in Conrad, MT, to the late PK and Marian Dickson on January 7, 1936, she grew up in nearby Havre, where she met the love of her life, Donald DonTigny, while attending high school. In June of 1954, they were married and rarely seen apart since. After starting a family, Marilyn and Don attended Northern Montana College together to obtain their teaching degrees. Upon graduation, the family moved to East Glacier, and they taught together in the Browning school district. In 1974, the family moved one last time to the Flathead Valley, where Marilyn taught English at the Bigfork High School, until she retired to enjoy many wonderful years of living on Swan Lake.
Marilyn was preceded in death by their son William DonTigny and by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Don; their children Joan Kelly {Michael} of Louisville, KY, and Michael {Kathi} of Hillsboro, OR; daughter-in-law Ann of Lake Stevens, WA; their grandchildren Joe, Christine, McKenzie, Madison, and Sierra; and great-grandsons Michael and soon-to-be born Thomas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 23, at 2:30 at Marilyn’s home on Swan Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in her name to the Bigfork Library, to honor a life spent instilling a love for reading and learning.
