Shannon "Shanny" Jan Simpson, born May 4, 1954, in Wisconsin, passed away March 13, 2026 in Fortine, Montana, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a woman who filled every room with laughter, loved fiercely, and never lost that spark of childlike wonder that made her so special to everyone who knew her.
Shannon was born in Wisconsin, grew up in Washington, and raised her family in Idaho before eventually making her home in the beautiful mountain country of Montana. She married Gene Simpson on June 24, 1972 in Seattle, Washington. During their 53 years of marriage, they had a partnership built on love, loyalty, and more than a few good laughs along the way.
Shannon had a way of making people smile. She was genuinely funny, the kind of person who could find humor in just about anything and make everyone around her feel lighter for it. She was a kid at heart who approached life with curiosity and joy, whether she was behind a sewing machine crafting something beautiful, working on a woodworking project with her hands, traveling to new places, or showering affection on whatever beloved pet happened to be curled up beside her. She had a gift for making the ordinary feel extraordinary.
Shannon is survived by her devoted husband, Gene Simpson; her daughter, Emillie (Gordon) Bower; her son, Travis Simpson; and her daughter from another mother, Gloria (Walter) Bingham; and numerous other family members and friends whose lives she touched deeply. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Simpson; her son, Jack Simpson; her daughter from another mother, Jennifer Newman; and her parents, Gloria Sandley and John "Jack" Lima. May she now find peace and rest in the arms of something gentle and good, reunited with those she loved and lost along the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you hug someone you love, laugh a little louder, and maybe spoil a pet or two in Shannon’s honor. Throw a splash of mischief in there too, that is exactly what she would have wanted
